If you roll a dice that ends up with three dots on top, you say: "I throw a 3". Existentially this is incorrect, or at least undesirable: you refer to the side with three dots by its category.

Categories are suspect in existentialism. Although something (or someone) might fit into one, categorisation ruthlessly removes individual characteristics by emphasising essence over existence.

For didactic reasons, the dots on the existential dice are hand-painted. The sides appear to be in a shared category (of 1’s), but if you look closer, the dots on each side are unique. The triggered impulse to look closely at each dot is aligned with the ethics of existentialism: each side is unique and should be recognized as such.

These dice are a training tool. Use them in your games until you can see the sides of regular dice (with 1—6 dots) from the same existentialist perspective.

After that, the rest of the world is a small step.

Set of two hand-marked dice in box. Available in the boutique.
